Standing on shaky ground
I was coming home from grabbing chips and beer and the Temptations' horn crawled its way through my headphones and soon I found myself dancing, beer in hand around my house. I don't know if you know, but I recently began taking classes at the local fashion school and wow! It's been a while since I've been in a class, it brings back memories! I was given a task, and that was to come up with some ideas for a final project, I've compiled a list, I'll share it with you when I'm ready. Until then, here are some photo's that I've taken, hopefully you haven't seen them already!

I had a lot of fun with this look. Bit sassy I may say, I feel naked, well I am naked. Remember when Rihanna wore that nude dress to the music awards or whatever, well, I'm doing the same thing, except I'm not wearing a thong under.
The nude dress I found while walking in Chinatown. I saw it in a shop window and thought that I might try it. It's a great slouchy for those days around the house, or can be sauced up for a night on the town.
The heels are a bit much, but whose counting, I love these puppies. I only wear them on occasion and find that no matter where I wear them, I always get complements.
Necklace is from Anice jewellery in Kensington Market and the dress/overcoat I purchased in a thrift shop in Parksville.
The whole outfit, I must say, is how do you say; Mother not approving!
I'm tired of magazines telling me what is "trending" and what isn't. For myself, I could never listen to that, I need to follow my own beat. As you can see my Toronto Law jersey dances to its own drum, and no, I did not go to law school.
Pleats will be in for the rest of my life, so when I saw this adorable pleat skirt, I grabbed it. When I was in Arizona, on my way out of the boutique I saw it had a twin, only in navy blue, same size, the lady gave them to me for a dollar each. The shoes I wore during my graduation, and the bag is a piece I found at Aldo on sale! I was in need of a solid coloured bag, and blue always makes me feel better.
This outfit it super girly, with a hint of tomboy hidden gracefully in the pleats. I love this outfit, its totally me!
PS-
Blue is my favourite colour.

There is something so beautiful about women. We have a way of capturing an audience, dancing with our hair down, singing and displaying affection. We're strong, intelligent, resourceful, powerful and elegant. There is something so incredible about being a female, something that causes enlightenment.
Women are strong
Women are talented
Women are beautiful
Women are artistic
Women are creative
I am a woman

All our lives we bleed to be an individual, but when it comes down to the finished product we look like our neighbours. Through my earlier years of high school I was shocked to see the amount of mass production that walked through the doors on a Monday morning. The minute an individual is born we're seen as a freak or strange and we're, for the most part, harassed until [said] person is back in jeans and an Urban Outfitters tee.
With Joe Fresh, American Apparel, Forever 21, and H&M in every city and village it makes it hard to be an individual in our clothing. We're loosing our ability to dress for ourselves and are solely relying on main stream department stores to do the styling for us. As the year drifts on we're beginning to see a movement in the our young adults, those who are willing to host vintage and value village in their closets, those who are intrigued at the idea of wearing second hand treasures. If you're old enough to do your own laundry you're old enough to shop for yourself. Discover what you like, follow trend reports for ideas and understand the clothing on your back.
So much of the time do we spend ogling and longing for the items in the style magazines, we soon find ourselves crashing the doors of Forever 21 for that seasons "must haves" only to find next season stripes are no longer "in." Style is about self expression, it is always changing and growing. Don't just purchase because it looks cute on the mannequin, it should make sense with who YOU are.

Never a day in my life have I
cared for Vanessa Hudgens, but then she began popping up all over my Tumblr dashboard
and thus I fell in love; with her style. Since her High School Musical days
she has grown into bohemian cutie with an exceptional eye for floral prints,
cute shorts and awesome shoes! Earlier in the spring I picked up a copy of
Paper magazine and low and behold Ms. Hudgens was on the cover. I read her
article and moved on. She doesn’t interest me on a social level, but her style
is unique and always flawless.

Whoever said menswear couldn't be elegant?
Ricardo Tisci is one such designer that can make any material sing his praises. This season was no different. With fall on our heels [sadly] Givenchy menswear has made sure that even with the weather changing you will look sleek and dapper.
Long handsome jackets, straight leg trousers and graphic prints in soft hues; this collection is undoubtedly ready for the tides to turn. Tailoring plays a significant role; with organza and satin, the utmost care is involved! This collection is careful, a mix of grunge with a soft edge. So once again I'll ask; who said menswear can't be elegant?

As you may notice I tend to stay away from main stream fashion! I hate the "you can't wear white after labor day" and "we wear pink on Wed" notion. Don't get me wrong- I am not "above" it or anything, I just find it all, well - predictable. For instance, floral for spring, pastels for summer and deep colors for fall. Sure all wonderful in theory but last seasons magazine is the same as this seasons just new words and new photographs, same fashion. That's why street style is so important to me; I love the individuality that comes from street chic. It's "your own thing". If everyone wore black and blue, we'd get sick and never leave our apartment - am I right? For myself, I love vintage and at 19 that's huge. Many of the designers and styles I wear are similar to that of my grandmother and that gives (gave) us something to talk about. Since growing up on a tiny island I got extremely sick of American Eagle, Hollister and Aborcombrie because that's all the "cool" kids wore [believe me it wasn't so cool when they all wore grey cardigans tanks and denim with matching Ugg boots] Honestly that's not style that's 17 Magazine and boring. Now that I'm out of jail it's nice to see a strong use of color, vintage, accessories, leather and floral all season long, it's so refreshing! So here is my proposition to all you mainstream wearers; stop, become your own individual and wear things people wouldn't normal wear. Its exciting, invent an image for yourself and see how fashion / couture, can change you life!
