Ralph Lauren S/S 2012 collection

"For spring 2012, I was inspired by a romantic kind of nonchalance- and effortless glamour that is always timeless." - RL

This season RL focused mostly on the look of the 1920's-1930's. Showing off his talent for using pastels, ivory, and extravagant textures. His demur daytime look is elegant, gentle as well as edgy and subtly sexy. He also added men's-style suits, using silk and pastels, V-cut undershirts, in ivory. By using straight leg pants it allows a woman of any size to slip into them and look sexy, sleek, and timeless.

(day)
Sticking with the 1920's theme he adds knee-length dresses. Flapper style dresses with a fringe bottom, being my personal favourite outfit. Attempting the jazz-age sports wear, RL did what he does best. Slim fitting antique floral open toed sandals, picnic basket-style totes, knit scarves and fluid silhouettes, making this seasons collection light-as-air and simple as a summers day.

(work)
Unlike most women's work suits, RL went with a romantic twist. Instead of the usual pin-strip, tapered-legs and unflattering shapes, RL built his suits using silk, beads, ties, big diamond earrings and adorable 1930 sports wear hats. Reinventing the modern 3 piece suit using soft powder blues, ivory silk, and double breasted jackets. The look is simple and stunning, easy to wear as well as being comfortable and modest.

(detailing)
RL isn't known for super tedious detailing, but this season my hat goes off to him. His feather boa, sequins, jeweled and hand stitched hats are exquisite. Hand-sewn, porcelain, bead work on evening gowns, hand stitched hats and beaded sandals are brilliant, rendering luxurious and incredible craftsmanship.

(evening)
The simple evening gown was made of silk in blush pinks, ivory and stark-white. Simple, classic and timeless, RL portrayed his talent in the decisions on the cuts, fabrics, textures and lines. Authentic "Roaring 20's"  hemlines and jewelry was displayed in the most sophisticated way. Tassel earrings, draping belts flashed and sparkled but didn't take away from the overall excitement of the dress.

This season RL focused on the 1920's and 1930's, showing off his talent for making even the most simple gown look sophisticated and chic. Adding bead work to his outfits, textures to his shoes, and florals to his pants giving off a womanly elegance to his entire collection. Ralph Laurens S/S 2012 collection was a huge success.
