Upon finishing his education, Givenchy went on to work with Elsa
Schiaparelli, Lucien Lelong, Robert Piguet, and Jacque Fath and on February, 2,
1952 he opened his own fashion house. Creating a close relationship with his clientele
was very important to Givenchy; Jacquline Kennedy, the Dutchess of Windsor,
Audrey Hepburn were regulars to the fashion house. In 1988 Givenchy sold his
fashion house to Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. In 1995 John Galliano was
appointed successor then a year later American blood took creative siege and
Alexander McQueen was given the title as creative director of the Givenchy
label in 1996.
